Full Description

His Honour, Justice Peter Riordan, discusses the Common Law Improvement Program. His insights include comments regarding advocates immunity and if and how it extends to counsel and solicitors in different circumstances. His Honour also gives an insight into how the Courts are approaching the resolution and management of common law cases, before the common law division. His Honour references the following case: Gregory Ian Attwells & Anor v Jackson Lalic Lawyers Pty Ltd [2016] HCA 16.

Stephen O’Meara QC discusses manual handling regulation cases, and how they are operating today. He examines the following recent cases concerning this issue: Govic v Boral Australian Gypsum Ltd [2015] VSCA 130; Deal v Kodakkathanath [2015] VSCA 191; 45 VR 372.

Aine Magee QC speaks on pain and suffering damages in personal injury cases as well as counsel’s obligation in jury trials. Aine analyses the trends in general damages verdicts over the last 8 years.
