This seminar, presented by the Victorian Bar and the Commercial Bar Association Banking and Finance Section, and chaired by Samantha Cipriano, is concerned with self-represented litigants in commercial cases. His Honour Judge Woodward of the Commercial Division of the County Court of Victoria, who up until appointment practiced in corporate insolvency and general commercial matters. His Honour provides insight into self-represented litigants from the perspective of the judiciary, and what the County Court is doing with regard to self-represented litigants in commercial cases.

Sam Hay has a broad commercial practice with particular expertise in acting for lenders and insolvency practitioners, and as a result has opposed many self-represented litigants in VCAT through to the Court of Appeal, shares insights in acting as a member of opposing counsel to a self-represented litigant.

David Yarrow has a general public and commercial law practice. David is a legal adviser for multiple aboriginal organisations and is a member of the Bar’s Pro bono committee, shares insights into this scheme, and the committee’s role with regard to self-represented litigants.
