In March 2015, Michael Brett Young was appointed by the Attorney-General as the Independent Reviewer to conduct the eight-year review of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic). The review has been completed and the report prepared by Mr Brett Young was tabled in Parliament on 17 September 2015. The purpose of the seminar is to inform members of the legal profession of the substance of the recommendations made by Mr Brett Young, and how those recommendations, if adopted by the Victorian Parliament, will enhance the effectiveness and otherwise improve the operation of the Charter. Mr Brett Young discusses five key issues in this seminar relating to the Charter and the recommendations that he made:
- what is the Act;
- who does it protect;
- who has responsibilities;
- how does it work; and
- what are the limitations to its use?
