Stuart undertook articles at Freehills in the industrial relations practice in Melbourne in the early 1990’s. He was called to the Bar in 1995, reading with Tim Ginnane, the now Justice Ginnane of the Supreme Court. He later took Silk in 2011.
Stuart has appeared in over 250 cases, acting mostly as lead counsel and is one of the Victorian Bar’s leading industrial relations and employment law barristers.
Stuart Wood QC has acted for many large Australian and multinational employers in some of the most prominent industrial and employment disputes in the country. This has included for Patrick Stevedores in the Waterfront Dispute, for Boral in its current dispute with the CFMEU and for the Attorney-General in relation to the blockade of the Myer Emporium site.
Stuart has had work published in the Australian Financial Review, Quadrant Magazine, the Australian Journal of Labour Law and the Australian Bar Review.
Outside of his work at the Bar, Stuart is the non-executive Chairman and owner of Great Southern Press Ltd, a successful business-to-business publishing house with a focus on the energy and infrastructure sectors. He is also the Secretary and Treasurer of The Samuel Griffith Society.
